- Step counter, wheel encoder for motors
- used to record the position and rotational speed of a motor
- consists of an optical sensor (light barrier) (fork light barrier, phototransistor) and a slotted disk
- is connected to a microcontroller with an enclosed three-pole pin header
- the sensor detects slits in the rotating disk and generates a pulse sequence from them
- supplies 5V when the beam is blocked (0V when the beam is unblocked)

- Output signal: digital
- Reading frequency: up to 100KHz
- Outer diameter of the slotted disk: 26mm
- PCB dimensions: 22*20mm
