Distance sensor, obstacle detection sensor - Infrared (IR)

Overview:

Functionality:

Sensor for object detection or distance measurement using infrared light.

The output of this sensor is digital (HIGH and LOW signal)

The sensor has a compact design in which the light source and the detector are arranged in the same direction. To detect the presence of an object, any reflected infrared beam from the object is used. The IR wavelength is 950 mm. The detector consists of a phototransistor.

The IR transmitter and receiver are mounted individually on the module. The sensor not only detects whether there is an obstacle, but also the distance to the object (as a relative value, depending on the strength of the reflected light) and outputs this as a digital signal. The sensor sensitivity for the digital signal can be adjusted using a potentiometer.
