Solenoid valves are classic valves that are opened and closed with the help of an electromagnet. When the solenoid is off, the valve is held closed by a spring. As soon as a voltage is applied to the contact of the valve, which is usually between 12V and 24V in microelectronics, the electromagnet becomes active and opens the valve. When the voltage drops, the spring closes the valve again. In this context, we also speak of directly controlled solenoid valves.

What do I have to pay attention to when buying?

In order for the valve to switch as desired when voltage is applied, it is imperative that you pay attention to the voltage required for switching when selecting the appropriate item. Please also note that most microcontrollers cannot transmit the voltage required for switching as a pulse directly to the valve at the required level.  We therefore recommend the use of an external voltage supply, which is connected with a relay.
