This inductive proximity switch / distance sensor reliably detects metallic (i.e. electrically conductive) objects. The switch is typically used as a limit switch for CNC machines or 3D printers, for example. An illuminated LED for practical indication of the output status is also built in.
For control with an Arduino microcontroller, the signal voltage must be reduced to 5V using a voltage divider.
