The ROBOTIS OP3 is a very popular development platform for a wide range of applications. Due to the full ROS support (Robot Operating System), the OP3 can be used for extensive research in the fields of machine learning, AI, SLAM, navigation and much more

Robot Operating System (ROS)
As already mentioned, a wide range of nodes is already available for the OP3 in order to shorten the familiarization period and increase productivity. The documentation of all components used is very comprehensive, so that each component can be individually adapted and used on the software side. Thanks to the already created "robot profiles" (XML files), visualization in various simulation programs, such as RVIZ or Gazebo, can be carried out within a very short time.
Hardware
When selecting the hardware, a high degree of reliability and user-friendliness was placed on it, which is why only components from well-known manufacturers were used. The mechanics and control components come from ROBOTIS, only when selecting the camera and the development board was an Intel NUC with i3 processor, 8GB Ram and SSD used. The 20 degrees of freedom are provided by DYNAMIXEL XM430-W350-R servomotors and are characterized by a high torque despite high positioning speeds. The servo controller board is an OpenCR with Cortex M7 CPU, magnetic field sensor, acceleration sensor and gyroscope.

Here is the summary of the changes.
- SBC Upgrade: Upgrading from a NUC 7th generation i3 to a NUC 10th generation i3.
- Battery Upgrade: Upgrading from an 1800mAh to a 3300mAh battery. Please note that this is still under testing and not finalized.
- For software, we are considering the following improvements:
- ROS2 Support: Implementing support for the ROS2 framework.
- Balance Control and Walking Improvements: Enhancing the robot's balance and walking capabilities.
- Ball Detection Improvements: Improving the robot's ability to detect balls.
- Additional Simulator Support: Expanding simulator support beyond Gazebo to include Webots and Mujoco.
- We are also exploring the possibility of supporting NVIDIA Isaac simulation.
- Please note that these plans are subject to change as development progresses.
