The 80 cm infrared proximity sensor is a general purpose distance measuring sensor based on the Sharp GP2Y0A21YK, a wide-angle distance measuring sensor. This proximity sensor continuously measures distance and returns a corresponding analog voltage with a range of 10 cm (4 inches) to 80 cm (30 inches).

The sensor is quite small and uses a JST connector (ground, VCC and output). Since the sensor triggers continuously and does not require a clock pulse to trigger a measured value, it can be easily connected to any microcontroller. On the Seeeduino 4.2, the wire converts the 3-wire to a 4-wire, making it compatible with Grove's Twig interface.
