This piezo speaker is the same model that is included in our kits for Arduino. Instructions for using the speaker with Arduino can be found under the following link:

A piezo speaker is an acoustic output device that uses piezoelectricity to generate sound. Piezoelectric materials generate an electrical charge when they are mechanically deformed. This process also works in reverse and mechanical deformation can be generated by an electrical voltage. This effect is used in piezo loudspeakers to generate sound. This piezo loudspeaker generates an alternating current from a 5V DC voltage, which is connected to a thin piezo element. When the voltage is applied, the piezo element expands periodically and then contracts again, generating sound waves.
