Grove - Infrared reflection sensor v1.2
The Grove - Infrared Reflective Sensor v1.2 can be used to detect the proximity and color of objects. The reflective photosensor - RPR-220 used in this module consists of an infrared light-emitting diode and a highly sensitive phototransistor.
The light emitted by the IR LED is reflected by any object in front of the sensor and this reflection is detected by the photosensor (phototransistor). When the reflected light is detected, it generates a digital LOW output (or binary 0) on the SIG pin. The integrated LED indicator also lights up. If no reflection is detected or the object is too far away from the sensor, the output on the SIG pin remains at digital high (binary 1). The integrated LED display is switched off in this case.
The detection range of this sensor is 4-16 mm. The module contains a rail-to-rail operational amplifier to amplify the output of the phototransistor. There is a potentiometer with which the detection sensitivity of the amplifier can be adjusted.
Difference between IR distance sensor and ultrasonic distance sensor:
IR distance sensor | Ultrasonic sensor | |
Measuring principle | Measurement of distance by reflected light waves | Measurement of distance by reflected sound waves |
How it measures | Triangulation: The angle of a reflected IR beam is measured | The time between the transmission and reception of sound waves is recorded |
Human relationship | Invisible to the naked eye | Inaudible |
Object requirements | Suitable for measuring complex objects | Not suitable for measuring objects with complex surfaces |
Features:
- Highly sensitive and reliable: Using the reflective photosensor - RPR-220 - a built-in visible light filter minimizes the influence of stray light and a plastic lens is used for high sensitivity.
- Adjustable sensitivity for different occasions: The sensitivity of the reflective light sensor can be changed by adjusting the potentiometer with a screwdriver.
- Grove unit socket: The sensor ensures "plug and play" and can be used for various applications in a versatile way.
Application:
- CD player
- Photocopiers
- Gaming machines
- Office automation equipment
- Line-following robots
- Optical encoders
- Object counting
