The hexacopter landing gear provides the structure for a six-motor multicopter with a rotor-to-rotor distance of 550 mm. The design, featuring a plastic frame and aluminum struts, combines stability with minimal weight and ease of repair; individual arms can be replaced without special tools. This eliminates lengthy repair times following damage during operation.
The foldable arms allow for compact storage and transport without increasing the flight weight. Two permanently mounted landing skids increase ground clearance and protect the frame during landing. The motor mounts are designed for standard 22-mm brushless motors, which are commonly used in RC model building.
With a maximum payload of 2.5 kg, camera modules, additional sensors, or an extended power supply can be integrated. The electronics must be purchased separately: a flight controller for attitude stabilization, six motor controllers for motor control, and a power supply using lithium-polymer batteries. The takeoff weight varies depending on the choice of motors and payload.
Applications include aerial photography with lightweight cameras, surveying areas, or inspecting structures at heights of up to approximately 100 meters. The frame is also suitable as a learning platform for drone basics and for testing control algorithms, since assembly requires a basic understanding of electromechanics and allows for testing different motor combinations and controllers.
