The ACCESS:bit is a screw-on/plug-on board for the BBC-micro:bit that simulates an access barrier. It contains a switch for switching the integrated 3xAAA battery supply on and off and a buzzer for the sound. ACCESS:bit completes the family of micro:bit accessories for traffic/pedestrian crossings, which also includes the STOP:bit and the LAMP:bit.
It is supplied with a single servo, a barrier and all necessary fixings. Once the Microbit is attached to the ACCESS:bit, its LED matrix is fully visible and can therefore be used to display warning signals, stop/go symbols or as a light sensor for autonomous actions.
The ACCESS:bit has been designed so that it can be connected to the micro:bit via the M3 countersunk screws supplied or via alligator clips. Information on the pin assignment can be found in the data sheet.
Kitronik has also created a set of custom MakeCode editor blocks to simplify coding, making this activity accessible to younger students.
To add the custom blocks to the MakeCode menu, select the cogwheel at the top right of the editor. Then select "Extensions" from the drop-down menu. This will open the search box. Search for Kitronik. Now select the ACCESS:bit tile and the blocks will be added to the editor.
Note:
- The ACCESS:bit is not supplied with a micro:bit. The micro:bit is available separately.
- Some mechanical assembly work is required for this kit.
