The Real Time Clock (RTC) - clocking to the second in microelectronics
In simple terms, a Real Time Clock (RTC) is a clock. An RTC module is used to read and process the time measurement unit within an electronic circuit. This measuring unit is needed to bring systems into a common working cycle. The process behind this is also called synchronization.
Real Time Clock modules usually have an energy storage, often a battery, which ensures that the time is reproduced correctly even if the module is removed from a given power circuit in the meantime.
