Very good quality, and massive torque
I will be using mine as a steering servo on robotic cart that carries 200kg of cargo. For very high torque applications like this there are very few choices, either brutally expencive or sent direct from China.
This is a reasonable price, and while chinese made it is European stock, so arrived quickly with no hassle. The basic concept of combining an off the shelf industrial gearbox/motor combination with a rotary encoder to allow it to act as a servo is excellent for this application, and this execution is really nice quality and performs as per the spec sheet.
The gearbox teeth are steel, and were greased properly during assembly. The primary output shaft runs on a press fit plain bearing, some of the internal gears run on ball bearings, and some on plain bearings. The motor is a standard 540 size brushed DC motor. It has an inbuilt fan, and the carbon brushes are visible for checking their health.
This variation uses a magnetic encoder to detect the shaft position, which I think is superior to the other versions that use potentiometers to detect position.
I anticipate years of strong performance from this servo, and even if it fails mechanically its modular nature makes the repair easy. I could also see applications where I adapt the control board to drive other motor/gearboxes.
Funduino seem to be one of the few companies that stock these within Europe, and I am very glad they do. I paid a (small) premium by buying through them rather than Alibaba for delivery in days rather than months, and no import duty charges.
I will buy again and would recomend this servo to others who need something with very very high torque.
