RFID for Arduino: Read transponders on the microcontroller

Not only in our Starter Kits RFID modules like the RC522 belong to the absolute standard, also in our everyday life we encounter the practical tags in many places - often unrecognized. Typical examples include stamp chips, door locks or the popular TonUINO box.
Many of these systems are based on a technology that is very close to using Arduino-compatible microcontrollers.
But what is RFID anyway? RFID (English for Radio-Frequency-Identification), enables a contactless data exchange between a so-called transponder module, often called a "tag" and a reader. When the tag is held up to the reader, data is exchanged between the two modules and an identification code is transmitted from the tag. This code is then read and processed by a control unit, for example to unlock an entrance door.

Buy RC522 and PN532 RFID modules at Funduino

We offer different RFID transponder cards and readers in our online store. Please pay attention to the frequency when choosing the right RFID module for you. This is typically 13.56MHz for readers within the Arduino microelectronics.
The most popular compatible RFID modules are the RC522 and PN532 module. Depending on the project, RFID tags in the form of check cards, key fobs or stickers are suitable.
In addition, you can also find access control panels with an input matrix and an RFID reader in our online store.
