Microcontrollers are the central heart of your next project

Nowadays, microcontrollers are indispensable in all devices and projects in which electronic data processing plays an overriding role. No matter whether in the domestic coffee machine, the washing machine or in an automated watering system for indoor plants. We encounter microcontrollers in many places in our everyday lives - often we are just not aware of them. That's why these single-chip computer systems are essential for your next project.

Choosing the right microcontroller

There are a few things to consider when choosing the right microcontroller. Even though the basic functions of the controllers are often very similar, the areas of application of single-board computers are widely spread.
Here, we roughly distinguish between microcontrollers with a graphical user interface, such as the Raspberry Pi, and microcontrollers that are programmed directly via an integrated development environment (IDE). The best-known representative here is the Arduino UNO R3.

Before buying the right microcontroller, the main question is how the microcontroller will ultimately be used. This is because the size of the board or the performance of the chip also plays an important role in the selection. If the space is limited by external factors or the microcontroller is only to execute simple commands, it is advisable to use smaller microcontrollers.

The most important criteria for the selection of microcontrollers at a glance

We summarize:

  • What purpose should the controller serve?
  • Do I need a graphical user interface or is direct programming sufficient?
  • How big can the microcontroller be? How small can the controller be?
  • What power does the microcontroller need to accomplish the task?
  • Can I guarantee a sufficient power supply?
  • What additional requirements should the controller meet?

If you need help in choosing the right controller, you are of course always welcome to contact us.
