Grove - CAN BUS module (based on GD32E103)
- Item no: F23106112
- Weight: 0,01 kg
- Packing dimensions: 4 cm x 2 cm x 1 cm (L x W x H)
This GD32E103-based Grove CAN BUS module uses a GD32E103 microcontroller as the main controller and works with the firmware to complete the serial interface function to CAN FD.
With CAN FD, the data rate (i.e. the number of bits transmitted per second) is five times faster than classic CAN (5 Mbps for the data payload only), but the arbitration bit rate is still limited to 1 Mbps for compatibility reasons. It supports the AT command, which enables simple programming of the serial interface. It has a frequency of up to 120 MHz.
Note: The module cannot yet be used as an MCU, this function is to be implemented in the future.
Features
- Supports CAN communication: Implements CAN FD with up to 5 Mbit/s
- Easy to program: Supports the AT command, which enables simple programming of the serial interface
- Grove system: 4-pin Grove connector for plug-and-play, Arduino compatible
What is CAN-BUS?
CAN stands for Controller Area Network and enables microcontrollers and devices to communicate with each other within a vehicle without a host computer that enables control and data acquisition.
How does CAN-BUS work?
Each node has an ID, whereby those with the higher priority ID can have the priority to "talk" first, while the others "listen". This is to ensure that two nodes never communicate at the same time. The biggest advantage of CAN-BUS is that you can easily connect components without having to worry about signal routing.
Application
- Car: Allows different parts of the vehicle to communicate, including the engine, transmission and brakes. Window, door and mirror adjustment.
- 3D printers
- Building automation
- Lighting control systems
- Medical instruments and devices

What is Grove?
Grove facilitates connection, experimentation and simplifies the prototyping process. No jumpers or soldering are required. More than 300 Grove modules have been developed to cover a wide range of applications and fulfill a variety of requirements. Not only the hardware is open source, but also the software. We offer different Grove Shields to connect to the Grove system with various microcontrollers.
